2 steps forward

As I continue working through the courses in the Master's program, I learn more and more about forms of technology that can be used in the classroom. I have learned about blogs, wikis, podcasting, and screencasting. I am still gaining confidence with these forms of technology and how I might incorporate them in the classroom. This is the last week of instruction with students so I haven't really incorporated any new forms of technology with my students this week. I did find a resource for an interactive game on personal finance this week, I was looking forward to using it one of the last days of school but wasn't able to due to schedule changes taht elimintated the class time that was needed.

One area that I feel that I am the weakest in is the development of wikis, and I saw today that was upcoming in the course so I am certain I will gain that experience this week. I really appreciate the fact that in this program we don't just learn about technology options, but we put them in use in our specific contnet area. I think that will help as we implement them into the classroom. I have a training coming up that will help with my GAME plan on June 2-4 that will focus on providing differentiated instruction. I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn more about implementing that into my classroom next year as well.

What do you need to be in the GAME?

GAME plan

One of the first steps of my GAME plan is to continue to work towards earning my Master's Degree in Integrating Technology in the classroom. As far as progress towards that goal, I feel that I am making satisfactory progress and that I will continue to make the progress I need. As of right now, I do not have any questions about what is involved in continuing that process.

The second element of my GAME plan involves incorporating one new techonology piece into my classes from the classes I have been taking as part of my Master's Degree. I have already integrated using an inquiry/technology based project that I learned the steps to creating in my previous class. I would like to say as far as resources, the one thing I find most frustrating is the limtied access to technology and the fact that I have to sign up in advance and then work around the schedule. For next year, I am planning to try and incorporate more podcasting, just trying to figure out the best method for creating the podcast and how to record the information.

The third element involveds differentiated instruction in the classroom. As a host classroom, starting next year I will be providing differentiated instruction at minimum of 2 times a week. I took a baby step towards that this year with having students compete an individualized review activity (it involved 16 stations and students were assigned the station number based on a diagnostic test we had given them). At times I had wondered was taht the best thing for my students but that I received back my socres on the state assessmetn, their performance was outstanding and I would attribute a portion of the credit to the students.

Making a GAME plan

As I examine the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) and evaluate where I am in achieving the standards on a consistent and persistant basis. I think that I am currently achieving the first standard of "Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity" because I allow opportunities for studetns to reflect and to think creatively in class.

I would like to work on improving on the second standard of "Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments" where I need to have "technology enriched learning environment that enables all studetns to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals", I have incorporated technology in the classroom but I am not incorporating it to provide student choice. I need to work on incorporating more differentiation into the classroom to ensure that students are fully using technology to achieve their learning goals.

As I incorporate more technolgoy in the classroom, I will need to ensure that I am "modeling digital responsibility" for my students. Students need guidance to use technology responsibly in order to learn how they might take the skills they are learning in the classroom and apply them to real life situations. I think that I am working towards this as I complete this degree as I am learning much about collaboration and learning about new methods of technology that can be incorporated in the classroom. I have learned much about wikis, blogs, podcasts, and screencasts and the applications that they will have in the classroom.

I need to continue to move forward towards accomplishing these goals. I plan to do that by following these steps:
1. I will continue to pursue my Masters degree in Integrating Technology in the classroom.
2. I will incorporate at least one new technology level in my classroom from each course that I have completed and will maintain the other technology that I have currently incorporate.
3. I will have a differentiate classroom, where students are doing individulaized instruction at least 2 times per week and I will incorporate that into my classroom using technology as a way to facilitate that in my classroom.

Next year, my classroom will be what is referred to at my school a "host model classroom" and one of the requirements is differentiated instruction, another is incorporating technology, and a third is collaboration at monthly meetings and reflections. I think by participating in that program, I will have added resources to aid me in incorporating this in my classroom.
