I am working on taking what I learned in my workshop last week to incorporate the technology resources that I will have next year. The Mimio interactive board is an amazing resource because the students will have the ability to interact not only with the board but also with the slate (similar to an interwrite tablet). I am working on developing units for the first nine weeks of instruction next year. I am also researching wikis and the use of wikis versus blog to allow my students to collabrate in and out of class.
I am still working on ensuring that I am achiving my previous goals. I could add that I will be working on collaborating more with the others at my school - however, that will be a lot easier as the new year begins in August.
So I guess I am in a holding pattern of planning lessons and ensuring that the materials for the fall are prepared so that I can fully implement the ideas in my classroom.
I think I am taking the steps that I need to acheive my goals. While the summer is delaying my implementation of the programs, I don't know if I would have as much time for research and planning if it wasn't summer - so I will continue moving on and making progress towards my goals.

Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteSummer is an excellent time to research and prepare as you renew and refresh your mind and spirit. Good for you for taking that time before you jump into something else. Working on our wikis together is hands-on experience and research. I believe it is quite a valuable tool to share. What do you think?
Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteOnce you have a place to start your wiki, you and your students will have an amazing time creating and learning from it as you go. This has been my experience...definitely a work in progress!
That is exciting that you have a Mimio board. How did you get one? I have only heard of a couple of teachers in my district who have one, and they had to apply for it. One of the teachers is a friend of mine, and she said that I can come over to her school and play with it since she needs help figuring out how to use it. I do not have a clue because I have barely heard about them. I am looking forward to checking it out. Any recommendations?
Megan,
ReplyDeleteI think you will love the Mimio - The website had lots of neat tips and tricks and we had a one hour training and that was most of the "basics". If you have had a smartboard before then this is similar - the huge advantage is that it is portable -it just attaches to whiteboard.
They are also (from what I understand) much more affordable than Smartboards.
Have fun checking it out - www.mimioconnect.com is the website.
Lynne,
ReplyDeleteI agree - putting the wiki into place is a high priority for next year - I think it give a lot of different advantages and I might be able to use it with less restrictions than a blog with our network.
Thanks for your post!
I too, want to analyze the information about setting up Wiki versus blogs. I have a hard time believe my students would be able to collaborate with a Wiki. Summer is here and know we can focus on the technology piece and the goals that we set for next year. It is great to focus on how we can improve as educators. It is refreshing to discuss with other teachers about how we can make ourselves more effective. Great work!
